JOB: Director, Medical Affairs (IBSA)

The Director of Medical Affairs is a hands-on, participative leader responsible for the Medical Affairs management of IBSA Pharma.

This position oversees and manages Medical Affairs, including strategy, communications and medical affairs directed clinical activities across the Endocrinology and Pain franchises. You will handle developing and executing the Medical Affairs initiatives, developing peer-level relationships with medical and scientific experts, including key thought leaders, healthcare professionals, and professional organizations. You will lead and manage several investigator-initiated (IIS) clinical studies. You will also lead several field-based medical science liaisons and provide leadership, medical and scientific and clinical expertise, and a sense of urgency to develop and execute Medical Affairs initiatives that supports the company growth and strategy. This position reports into Chief Business Officer, Medical Affairs Officer and Head of Marketing.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Develop and execute the Medical Affairs initiatives

  • Develop peer-level relationships with medical and scientific experts, including key thought leaders, healthcare professionals, managed markets customers and professional organizations and societies.

  • Develop and lead advisory councils and national and regional advisory boards.

  • Present and deliver the scientific and medical information that clinically differentiates IBSA products.

  • Lead and manage investigator-initiated (IIS) clinical studies.

  • Lead the field-based medical science liaison (MSL) team with clear direction and objectives.

  • Provide medical support for medical information inquiries.

  • Provide medical input in review of promotional materials as part of the Medical Regulatory Committee (MRC) review.

  • Respond to customer inquiries to ensure focused and balanced clinical and scientific information that supports the appropriate use of IBSA products and services.

  • Coordinate with IBSA HQ R&D team on clinical development activities.

  • Provide medical and clinical input in the due diligence of potential in-licensing projects.

  • Other duties as assigned.



  • MD degree preferred, PhD as a minimum requirement, Board Certified, or equivalent clinical or research experience.

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in clinical / research / academic medicine or equivalent pharmaceutical industry experience. Proven track record of working successfully with cross-functional internal teams as well as external stakeholders to achieve goals.

  • Experience with medical strategies and clinical trial implementation is required. The Director will serve as a resource across the Endocrinology/Pain Business Unit and would be expected to have significant knowledge of basic Endocrinology/Pain science, mechanisms of action, treatment landscapes and clinical practice patterns across various therapeutic areas.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly strong formal presentation skills; strong interpersonal skills commensurate with the need to work closely with both outside physicians, numerous in-house groups; strong managerial skills to lead effectively and motivate staff; demonstrated high proficiency in problem solving ability and possession of strong scientific analytical skills; excellent planning and organizational skills; experience in setting and adhering to departmental budgets; knowledge of scientific methods, research design and medical practices and procedures that would be acquired through clinical experience and clinical research studies.

  • Basic knowledge of clinical trial design and biostatistics; proficiency using standard software suites.

  • Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Proactive leader who can both develop and execute; must have a results-oriented work ethic and a can-do attitude.

  • Ability to travel (domestic and global) up to 30%

  • Additional duties as needed.
